Purpose

The IDL SIG scholarship was created to assist students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or certificate in the area of Instructional Design. Students applying for this scholarship are expected to demonstrate their focus on topics related to Instructional Design through their academic studies, current jobs, graduate or certification program, or special projects.

Award

The IDL SIG will offer two scholarships this year for college students:

• $500 for one undergraduate student
• $1,000 for one graduate student

The awards, wholly funded by the IDL SIG, can be used for registration fees, books, or attendance at the 2010 STC Summit (our annual conference) in Dallas, Texas, to be held May 2-5, 2010 @stc2010. All winners and honorable mentions will be featured in the IDL SIG quarterly newsletter.

The deadline for submission of prospective proposals for Technical Communication Summit ‘10 is fast approaching! All proposals must be submitted by 10:00 AM EDT (GMT-4), Monday, 5 October 2009, and must be submitted through our online submission system. The initial Call for Proposals is republished below:

The Society for Technical Communication invites you to contribute your ideas, studies, experience, and expertise at our Technical Communication Summit 2010, the 57th Annual Conference of the Society for Technical Communication.

The Society advances the theory and practice of technical communication across all user abilities and all media. Consequently, the core content of the Summit’s education program will be based on tracks that span the profession. Those tracks are detailed in this call for proposals. The work you are doing and have done is an important element in the education process, and we invite you to share it with Summit attendees.

For the second year running the International Technical Communication SIG and the Europe SIG are going to do a joint progression on international issues related to technical communication.

If you’re interested in presenting a topic related to localisation, internationalisation, cross-cultural/cross-language communication, working abroad, legal issues related to international communication, or another topic related to international or specifically Europe (or indeed EMEA – Europe, Middle East and Africa) drop me a note and I’ll start organising some ideas.

For the moment send your ideas to me (ue.llieno-refinnejnull@retirw). I’ll gather them together with Tracy Nathans-Kelly of the International SIG and we’ll post a list so that everyone can see what they could contribute.

I‘ve done a few progressions at the annual conferences and they are fun and stimulating. A very interactive way to discuss a topic.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 5 October 2009. So there’s not too much time left.

The 2010 Summit Call for Proposals is now open at http://www.softconference.com/subs/stc/2010/. You may submit more than one proposal but each one must be submitted separately. Proposals may be submitted and updated online until 10:00 AM ET, Monday, 5 October.

STC’s Technical Communication Summit 2010 will be held 2–5 May 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion, in Dallas, TX.

If you weren’t able to attend all the sessions at the Summit in Atlanta, you can now listen to a recording of those sessions and any of the ones you’d like to hear again. STC has announced that the 2009 SUMMIT@aClick is available on STC’s Live Learning Center, with unlimited access for those who attended the 2009 Summit in Atlanta.

SUMMIT@aClick has more than 85 sessions currently online and more sessions will be added as speakers review their material. SUMMIT@AClick will allow full conference attendees to review speaker materials, watch the audio/visual speaker presentation (as presented in Atlanta), and download an audio file.

Summit attendees should watch for an e-mail from moc.cgcmcnull@cts with the subject line: STC’s 56th Annual Technical Communication Summit, which will contain the passcode and instructions to access the content.
