Q. Can STC members use the STC logo or logotype on personal documents or Web sites to promote themselves or their professional services?
A. No, they cannot. (For discussion purposes, the STC logo is the uniquely formatted "STC" symbol, and the logotype is the uniquely formatted text "Society for Technical Communication." Both of these appear on officially sanctioned STC publications or documents. Our logo and logotype should not appear on ads, literature, or other communications that promote, or include the promotion of, products or services of others without express permission of the Society's board of directors. Generally speaking, the logo and logotype of the Society should not be used on personal or business stationery, or on any publication or document not officially authorized by the Society.
Winners of STC competitions awards at the international level, however, may freely duplicate the STC award emblems in resumes or company publications, and on Web sites or copies of the winning piece. In order to publicize competition winners, the Society has designated special emblems to denote the winning awards of STC competitions, which may be downloaded (in either best of show or general format), from the STC Web site. The emblems may be customized with the competition name and year in your choice of font. The emblems may not be used for the promotion of chapter-level award winners of STC-sponsored competitions.
Winners of our WDC Chapter STC competition awards, may freely duplicate our chapter STC award emblems in resumes or company publications, and on Web sites or copies of the winning piece. The chapter's award emblems may be downloaded from the STC WDC Competition Award Emblems page.
