Topic: "The Communications Challenge of the Century: Distance Learning As A Giant Step for Institutions and for Mankind"

About the Meeting

The presentation will be on issues associated with large-scale distance education programs in national and transnational settings. Subtopics will include:

Allusions will be made to academic curricula and programs in Technical Communication, as well as to the potential role of Technical Communicators in influencing curricula and the speedy delivery of DE courses.

Don't forget your business cards! We collect a business card from each attendee for a drawing to be held in March. The prize is the cost of the registration fee for the Annual conference will be paid for by the Chapter.

About the Speaker

Dr. Kathleen Burke is Asst. Dean for Distance Education at UMUC, one of the 11 degree-granting institutions in the State of MD. Previously a manager with IBM's Application System Division, and program analyst with the American Institutes for Research (DDC), Dr. Burke has been involved in developing distance education curricula and programs for over 15 years. She currently manages the Bachelor's degree at a distance program for UMUC, which enrolls over 6,000 students per year in countries around the world. In addition, she is in charge of curriculum development for UMUC's distance program worldwide.
