Topic: "Building a Communications Plan"

About the Event

Building a communications plan is more than writing press releases and marketing brochures. It requires understanding an organization's vision, mission, and strategic goals and linking all communications efforts toward the execution of those goals. In this presentation, Ms. Overstreet will discuss the process of building an effective communications plan that will gain the support of management and help an organization to realize its strategic and operational goals. The presentation will include a discussion period.

Don't forget your business cards for networking!

About the Speaker

Laura Overstreet, Deputy Director, Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association, has worked as a professional communicator in high-tech organizations ranging from the U.S. Air Force to Unisys Corporation, National Registery Inc. (a high-tech start-up in the field of biometrics), and Bendix Aerospace. Recently, she refocused her career to the travel and tourism industry where she markets Alexandria, Virginia as a premier travel destination. The fundamentals of business communication are the same, no matter what the industry is, she says.

Ms. Overstreet is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Her work has received the Gold Quill award from the IABC, the Thoth award from PRSA's National Capital Chapter, and the Business Communicator's award from the Aviation and Space Writers Association.
