About the Event

This annual event features a progression of round table discussions about careers in technical communications. This year's agenda includes topics of interest to those who are new to the field of technical writing and established practitioners alike. Attendees have a choice of attending four of five table topics led by experienced practitioners:

Proposal Management Basics and Tips on Proposal Writing

The proposal process is often a daunting task for any technical communicator. This round table discussion will include management of the proposal process and tips on proposal writing. Handouts will be provided.

Going for the Gold - Making Money in Technical Writing

Make "work less, play more" your reality by maximizing your income as a freelance technical writer. In this round table we will discuss different ways to approach your freelance career that each take you further down the road to financial independence. Integrating Your Interests and Career Goals in Your Current Work

Food

Your choice from a variety of three sandwiches and five salads:

  • Vegetarian Focaccia Sandwich – Fresh focaccia sandwich with balsamic-marinated grilled bell peppers, eggplant, zucchini, provolone cheese, red oak lettuce, and sun dried tomato spread. Comes with a side salad and a cookie.
  • Croissant Sandwich – Assorted deli meat with slices of avocado and monterey jack cheese. Comes with a side salad and a cookie.
  • Zep Sandwich – A 6-inch Italian baguette filled with genoa, capacolla, mortadella, provolone cheese, shaved lettuce, tomatoes, Greek peppers, black olives, and sliced onions, topped with oil and vinegar. Comes with a side salad and a cookie.
  • Classic Caesar Salad – Romaine lettuce, freshly grated Parmesan cheese, croutons, and Caesar dressing.
  • Classic Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken.
  • Oriental Chicken Salad – Shredded iceberg and Napa cabbage, toasted almonds, marinated chicken, cellophane noodles and green onions garnished with cilantro and mandarin oranges, and sesame oriental dressing.
  • Chef Salad – Bibb lettuce with avocado, ham, and smoked turkey, eggs, tomatoes, crumbled bacon and bleu cheese, and garlic vinaigrette dressing.
  • Vegetarian Chef Salad.

Fees and Registration

Admission Fees

Admission fees help to offset the costs of our programs. Fees may vary from program to program because of the costs of food and beverages, room rental, and other services. Our attendees pay slightly different fees depending on whether they are members, nonmembers, students, chapter volunteers, or walk-ins. We also sometimes offer a program-only option for programs that are not held in restaurants.

Chapter volunteers who are working at an event (e.g., staffing the registration table, greeting newcomers) are entitled to free admission for the event. Volunteers for each event are normally pre-determined before the registration process begins. We do not accept last-minute volunteers unless we have an unanticipated need for extra help.

$25 Nonmembers with advance registration
$25 Walk-ins without advance reservations (a meal is not available unless you reserve in advance)
** Each STC member may bring one guest at the member rate. Members and guests must register and pay together.

Advance Reservations

We encourage and sometimes require all attendees to register in advance. For events where advanced registration is required, we cannot accept reservations after the published deadline for the event.

If you are unable to register by the deadline, you can still attend the event as a walk-in, at the cost listed under Admission fees.

Restrictions:

  • We cannot provide food for walk-ins.
  • We do not provide refunds for late arrivals.
  • We reserve the right to bill those who register for a program, do not pre-pay, and do not attend the program.

Registration for Tech Comm Career Day

Registration is required for this event and must be made by Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 5 p.m. All who register after this date and time must pay the walk-in price. All information published under Advance reservations is applicable to this event.

To make a reservation, complete the program reservation form.

Payment

You may pay by sending a check through the U.S. Mail or by making a secure online payment through our PayPal page using your credit card, debit card, bank account, or by paying money from a funded PayPal account. (Using PayPal allows you to make purchases without revealing your credit card number or financial information to us.) We also accept cash or checks at the door. Non-registered walk-ins pay the same walk-in fee listed under Admission fees.

Cancellations

To cancel a registration, contact the Events Committee Manager as soon as possible. No shows who do not notify us that they need to cancel will be billed.
