Course Description: Documentation Project Management

This workshop covers project management basics, with a focus on managing documentation projects. Topics include initial project planning and research, developing estimates, assigning resources, project scheduling, monitoring the project, and contingency planning. This workshop includes demonstrations and hands-on exercises for participants. This workshop does not cover other aspects of management such as personnel management or strategic planning. Various tools and techniques are discussed and references for additional information are provided.

Who Should Attend?

  • Technical Communications professionals who want to gain basic project management knowledge or want to progress in their careers by developing management skills.
  • New managers who want to develop their project management skills.
  • Seasoned managers who want to refresh their skills and participate in the discussion to share their perspectives.

About the Instructor

photo of Charles Fisher

Charles Fisher is the Documentation Manager at Datatel, Inc., a leading developer of information management solutions for higher education. He has almost 20 years of experience in the Technical Communication field, and nine years of management experience. He currently manages a team of technical communication professionals, who develop information products that accompany Datatel's software.

In addition to his work at Datatel, Charles teaches courses in technical writing, software documentation, and written communication skills. He holds an MA in Professional Writing and an MS in Technology Management, both from George Mason University. He has presented workshops and sessions at many STC annual and regional conferences since 1991. He is an active member and Associate Fellow of the Society for Technical Communication. He has also held many positions at the Society level and within the Washington, DC Chapter. He currently serves on the Society's Conference Advisory Committee.

We cannot offer free admission to this event.

Cancellations

Cancellation deadline: 8 p.m., Tuesday, 3 January 2006. A full refund will be returned to you if you cancel by the deadline.

To cancel a registration, contact the Events Committee Manager as soon as possible. No shows who do not notify us that they need to cancel will be billed.
