About the Event

The dream goes something like this: "Now that we have a content management system, we'll be able to work more efficiently, use and share our knowledge across business functions, streamline our human resources activities, and better serve our internal (and external) customers." And in this dream, the CMS-managed website is a mighty thing to behold: a current, useful, frequently-visited, information-rich automated wonder!

Well, the content management system may be gonzo, the technology cutting-edge, but it's still well-written content that makes your website (or Intranet) worthwhile. While the web makes it easy to disseminate information quickly and broadly, that advantage can become a danger if content contributors lack the web writing skills they need to communicate effectively.

This workshop will provide the tools and techniques needed to write effectively in CMS systems and coach web content contributors to also write effectively for the web. Our presenter will discuss how CMS affects the web writing process and how to write well within the limits places by the CMS.

About the Speaker

Leslie O'Flahavan and Marilynne Rudick started E-WRITE in 1996. Since then, E-WRITE has worked with organizations of every size and type, teaching them to create user-focused web content and to improve their e-mail communication.

Leslie is especially interested in teaching writing to the front line administrative and support personnel who communicate with customers directly. She believes that writing is a teachable skill and that good writers are made, not born, so her approach to writing training is practical and hands-on. Leslie and Marilynne drew on their philosophy and experience in writing the book Clear, Correct, Concise E-Mail: A Writing Workbook for Customer Service Agents.

Leslie has presented customized courses for Fortune 500 companies, Internet start-ups, federal and local governments, and nonprofits. Clients include American Airlines, Coca-Cola, Fannie Mae, Prudential, Humana, The College Board, Key Bank, Pan American Health Organization, the U.S. Air Force, and The National Wildlife Foundation. Participants in E-WRITE courses include high-level executives, marketing and web teams as well as customer service agents.

Food

A light dinner, with meat and vegetarian options, will be served.
