Allen Rotz
2005-2009 Competition Awards Celebration Location Coordinator;
Former usability SIG manager
Allen Rotz is a senior member of STC and a long-time member of the Washington, DC - Metro Baltimore Chapter. He has served as the chapter's Usability SIG manager and is a regular speaker at STC and UPA-DC events. Allen is always someone we can count on to participate in the activities and growth of the Washington, DC - Metro Baltimore Chapter and the Usability and User Experience (UUX) SIG. As leader of the Washington DC Usability SIG, he shares information about usability training, serves as a liaison to related usability groups (such as SIG-CHI and UPA) with local chapters in the DC area, and leads the group enthusiastically. Within the UUX community, he shares his insights and passion for usability through contributions to the newsletter, regular participation on the discussion list, and active support of community activities. Allen developed the UID stem of the 2005 conference and has served as an active member of the chapter's competition committee both as a judge and the Awards Celebration Location Coordinator.
Allen works as a technical writer in Washington, DC. Having a congenital lack of patience, he readily empathizes with people trying to accomplish a task but who don't have the necessary tools or information. His motto is better and easier not more junk and complexity. Allen is also an active member of PLAIN (http://www.plainlanguage.gov/) and the Usability Professionals' Association (http://www.upa-dc-metro.org/).
