2006-2008 Past Secretary, STC Washington DC Chapter
Mike Cleary is a Web developer and technical writer for the business applications group at GMRI. When he's not writing copy for technical or marketing purposes, he manages the company Web site.
Formerly a business reporter, Mike did his first technical writing in 1997 as a freelancer. While writing a software user manual and testing for bugs, the technical writing bug bit him instead, and he began looking for a change. After more than a decade in journalism and picking up an armful of awards, Mike entered the technology field in 2001.
Since that time he has written user manuals, proposals, quick reference guides, online help and marketing materials. He has trained client staff in using new Web applications. As a Web developer, he has designed and built Web sites and Web-based applications for government and nonprofit clients. Besides HTML and CSS, he has occasionally coded in JavaScript or ASP. He has conducted usability studies and evaluates Web sites for Section 508 compliance.
Mike joined STC in 2002. He is also a member of the Usability SIG.
